GREETINGS YEAR 5 GUITARS! - 1 April 2020
I’ve recorded a series of videos to go with pages 28-29 of the guitar book.
First of all you can watch this video about tuning your guitar
When you open the tuning webpage that uses your computer microphone, don’t click on the green “start now” button, just click on the purple “turn on the tuner” button.
You’ll probably need to allow the webpage to use your computer’s microphone.
Remember - DON’T click on the green “start now” button!
REVISION and warm-up
Play through these pieces with me from pages 28 & 29.
Ode to Joy, Twinkle, twinkle little star & Što mi omilelo
Listen to me first, then play the video again and join in.
learning BIDDY EARLY
Start by listening to me play the whole piece through twice - see the repeat signs at the start and end?
I’ve recorded each bar separately.
Let’s start with bar 1.
Listen to me playing it as many times as you want.
Work out what the notes are. Bar 1 (which includes the three note pickup) is G A B | C C A C D E G |
Find all those notes on the guitar - they include all the notes we’ve learned so far (except for F on the 1st string).
Play the notes. Go slowly at first and gradually build up the speed.
Follow the same procedure for bar 2. Listen, identify notes, play - slowly then faster.
When you’re happy with bar 2, revise bar 1.
When you’re happy with that again, check bar 2.
FInally put them together, bar 1 followed by bar 2.
Play that lots of times.
Slowly add more bars.
Notice that bar 5 is the same as bar 1.
Bar 6 is the same as bar 2.
When you’ve finished learning all the bars, put them all together.
Notice that the last bar only has three beats written. When you repeat, the pick-up notes function as the 4th beat in the bar.
Listen to me playing the whole piece again.
This will take you several weeks to put it all together.
After you’ve done your lesson today, please email me and let me know how the lesson was.
Hopefully it works out, but let me know so that I can make it better for next time. We might be doing this for a while - nobody knows :-)
